You’re Not Perfect And Neither Am I

Posted on Monday, January 24, 2011 in Change

“They say that no one is perfect.  Then they say that practice makes perfect.  I wish they’d make up their minds.” - Winston Churchill

It was one of those moments when you say to yourself, “That’s exactly what I should have said.”  I was at a session for air talent, when the subject of PD’s asking for perfection came up.  It just came out of my mouth,  “If you expect perfection you’d better be ready to deliver it.”

That’s one of the most important things for a PD, or any other leader,  to understand – there’s no such thing as perfection.  We’re all on a journey towards perfection, but shouldn’t be thought of as a destination as much as a journey. I’d like to take credit for being smart enough to have said that before, or have realized it over time, but I really only understood it after I had let it slip out my mouth.  Ever have one of those?

What if it were a rule or law?  What if you couldn’t expect perfection unless you could deliver it.  Would you stand up to that rule?   Think you can deliver?
